Four distaffers who finished behind champion Swiss Skydiver in the Beholder Mile Stakes (G1) are scheduled to meet each other April 24 in the $200,000 Santa Margarita Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park. The 1 1/8-mile Santa Margarita, previously won by the likes of champions Zenyatta and Azeri, has a field of five, including Pharoah's Heart , who will be making her stakes debut.
The Santa Margarita goes as the eighth race in an 11-race card, with a post time of 4:30 PT. Under the allowance conditions, Harvest Moon carries 122 pounds, the rest 120.
As Time Goes By , owned by Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier, and Derrick Smith and trained by Bob Baffert, got closest to Swiss Skydiver in the March 13 Beholder. Making her stakes debut, the 4-year-old daughter of American Pharoah —Take Charge Lady , by Dehere, ran second to Swiss Skydiver by 2 3/4 lengths. Never worse than third in five starts, As Time Goes By has won two races.
Mike Smith, who rode As Time Goes By for the first time in the Beholder, returns aboard her in the Santa Margarita. She drew post 2.
Baffert is the only trainer with a horse in the race to have previously won the Santa Margarita. He captured the 2017 edition with Vale Dori .
Tabor also co-owns Harvest Moon , a 4-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo —Qaraaba , by Shamardal , along with breeder Alice Bamford. Simon Callaghan trains Harvest Moon, who finished fourth in the Beholder. Flavien Prat, the leading rider at the current Santa Anita meet, has been aboard in all but one of Harvest Moon's races, and he rides again from post 4.
Harvest Moon has the most stakes credentials of the entrants. Last year she won the Torrey Pines Stakes (G3) at Del Mar and the Zenyatta Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. She then finished fourth in the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1), behind only Monomoy Girl , Valiance , and Dunbar Road . Swiss Skydiver ran seventh in the Distaff after stumbling at the start.
The Beholder was Harvest Moon's first outing since the Distaff.
"She's doing well, and she probably needed her first race back a little bit," said Callaghan. "This is definitely an easier spot than she's been running in."

Abel Cedillo will pilot Clockstrikestwelve for Jonathan Wong, who trains the 5-year-old daughter of New Year's Day for owner Michael Rosenmayer. Wong, currently the leading conditioner at Golden Gate Fields, took over Clockstrikestwelve's training last fall. He won five consecutive races with her in claiming and allowance company prior to the Beholder.
