A rivalry between the juveniles campaigned by trainers Wesley Ward and John Ennis during Keeneland's Spring Meet gets carried over to Churchill Downs for the April 28 Kentucky Juvenile Stakes, where each trainer has a pair of entries in the eight-horse field.

Ennis will saddle Bohemian Frost , who won her debut on opening day at Keeneland and defeated Ward's homebred favorite Dream Fly ; and, Shesgotattitude , who also won her debut April 8 and held off a late challenge from a Ward and Stonestreet Stables heavy favorite Twilight Gleaming .

Ward, in turn, has entered Hat Creek Racing's first-out winner Averly Jane , who won by 8 3/4 lengths April 15; and, Gregory Kaufman's homebred Kaufymaker , who won her debut by 6 1/4 lengths the same day. Ennis' Royal County  finished fourth behind Averly Jane and his filly Ding Ding  was third behind Kaufymaker.

Besides Ward's and Ennis' starters, only one other horse in the Kentucky Juvenile field won her debut. She is Terry Hutto's American Bound , who is trained by Joe Sharp and is the first winner for Airdrie Stud's freshman sire American Freedom  . She won on Keeneland's opening day as well by 1 1/2 lengths.

Averly Jane, a daughter of Midshipman  , was bought for $35,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale by Gatewood Bell for his Hat Creek Racing partnership. She was bred by the University of Kentucky's Department of Agriculture and Food Sciences horse program that operates out of Maine Chance Farm along Newtown Pike near Lexington. The filly is the third runner and third winner out of the Richter Scale mare Sh Sh Shakin, who has a yearling colt by Brody's Cause  .

Both Bohemian Frost and Kaufymaker are second-choice in the morning line at 4-1.

Bohemian Frost is a daughter of current leading second-crop sire Frosted   out of the Speightstown   winner Toast of Mayfair, who also won her first start, as did her dam Appealing Zophie and her granddam Zophie. Ennis bought her for $42,000 at last year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale out of the consignment of Woodford Thoroughbreds, who bred the filly.

Kaufymaker is the second foal out of the winning Montbrook mare Heaven's Touch, who also was a debut winner at 2 with Ward and her initial owner Ten Broeck Farm. The filly is by Jimmy Creed  , who is among the top 10 of his sire class by progeny earnings and has sired 17 stakes winners to date, of which six have won stakes at 2.

Shesgotattitude, a daughter of Tiznow, is 6-1 in the morning line. She is the first foal out of the Eskendereya daughter Mackenzie Capri, who is a half sister to grade 3-placed, stakes winner Telekinesis. The filly was bred in Kentucky by Des Ryan, Ken Donworth, and Tony Dardis. She is raced in partnership by Donworth and Ennis.

The five-furlong race does include a couple of colts.

Trainer Steve Asmussen will saddle Vodka N Water , a son of Fed Biz   out of the Harlan's Holiday mare Camielee. He is owned by Parkland Thoroughbreds, Medallion Racing, RTA Family Trust, and Little Red Feather Racing. Vodka N Water made his debut April 7 at Keeneland where he finished second by a head to Social Mandate  for then-owner/trainer Robert McCutchen.

Owner/trainer Paul McEntee has entered a colt named Baytown Frosty , who is by Frosted out of the grade 3 stakes-placed winner Tasha's Delight (by Afternoon Deelites). He finished third behind Vodka N Water in the race won by Social Mandate.

The last horse in the field is Bode by You , a filly by Munnings out of the Bodemeister mare Rightful Time. Owned by Charles Brown and David Love, the filly has finished second twice at Keeneland—first in her debut to American Bound and in her next start to Kaufymaker. She is trained by John Hancock.
