Santa Anita Autumn Meet to Feature 21 Stakes

Improbable wins the 2020 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita Park
The stakes schedule for Santa Anita Park's Oct. 1-31 autumn meet will be comprised of 21 stakes highlighted by seven Breeders' Cup Challenge Series events scheduled for Oct. 1-3.
Three grade 1 stakes—the $300,00 American Pharoah for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles, the $300,000 Awesome Again for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles, and the $300,000 Rodeo Drive for fillies and mares 3 and up at 1 1/4 miles on turf—all figure prominently over the first two days as horsemen prepare for the Nov. 5-6 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Del Mar. The winners of those races will earn automatic berths into the TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1), the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), and the Maker's Mark Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T), respectively.
Four stakes will be offered on opening day, including three Breeders' Cup Challenge Series races—the American Pharoah, the $200,000 Chandelier Stakes (G2) for 2-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles (Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, G1), and the $100,000 Speakeasy Stakes for 2-year-olds at five furlongs on turf (Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, G2T).
The $200,000 Eddie D Stakes (G2T) for 3-year-olds and up at 6 1/2 furlongs on turf will also be run on Oct. 1.
On Oct. 2, the Awesome Again and the Rodeo Drive will be complemented by the $200,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G2) for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs. The Santa Anita Sprint Championship is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series race for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).
Additionally, the $200,000 City of Hope Mile (G2T) will be run on Oct. 2.
One additional Breeders' Cup Challenge Series race, the $200,000 Zenyatta Stakes (G2) for fillies and mares 3 and up at 1 1/16 miles (Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff, G1), will be offered Oct. 3, as well as a pair of $200,000 stakes for 2-year-olds at one mile on turf, the Surfer Girl and the Zuma Beach.
The $100,000 Chillingworth Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 3 and up at 6 1/2 furlongs and the $75,000 Unzip Me Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs on turf round out a total of five stakes on Oct. 3.
A pair of graded turf stakes, the $100,000 Autumn Miss (G3T) for 3-year-old fillies at one mile and the $200,000 Twilight Derby (G2T) for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles, will be offered on closing weekend.
