The $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park changed complexion May 7 with Withers Stakes (G3) winner and morning-line favorite Risk Taking instead targeting the May 15 Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course.
Three-time Peter Pan winner Todd Pletcher now holds the hottest hand for the May 8 event with Withers runner-up Overtook and Promise Keeper , who has posted wins of five lengths or more in two of his four starts.
Overtook has earned the bullet in two of his past four works and comes in fresh off the Feb. 6 Withers. The Curlin colt races Repole Stable, St. Elias Stable, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Susan Magnier.
"It took him a little while to find his best, so we decided to wait for the Peter Pan. It seems like the last two or three weeks, he's really come around," Pletcher said, adding Overtook—who has earned the bullet in two of his past four works—could eye the Belmont Stakes (G1) off a strong Saturday run.
Promise Keeper ran 12th in his graded debut, the March 6 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby (G2), but the Constitution colt turned heads for Woodford Thoroughbreds, WinStar Farm, and Rock Ridge Racing in an April 8 allowance-level tilt at Keeneland.
Pasco Stakes winner Nova Rags , maiden winner Wolfie's Dynaghost , and maiden I Am the Law complete the field.
