Mystic Guide trains March 21 before winning the Dubai World Cup at Meydan

Godolphin's Mystic Guide  recorded his first workout since capturing the Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline (G1) March 27 with a half-mile breeze May 8 in :48 3/5 at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland.

The 4-year-old Ghostzapper colt has done well after his return from the Middle East, trainer Mike Stidham said. His race in Dubai was his second of the year following a romp in the Feb. 27 Razorback Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

"This morning's work was as pretty as you could ask for it to be," Stidham said. "He just cruised around there, in hand, a comfortable :48 and change. Galloped out good. Came back good. So I could not be happier for his first work back.

"I'm shocked how he handled that trip, and the stress of the race, shipping. it was just very impressive just how he bounced back from that."

Stidham mentioned the $400,000 Suburban Stakes (G2), 1 1/4-mile race at Belmont Park July 3 as one of multiple races under consideration for Mystic Guide. The colt has twice been second in as many starts at Belmont, including in last fall's Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1).

"We would be looking at a mile and an eighth, mile and a quarter races only," Stidham said. "I'm not going to shorten him up. He's a true mile and a quarter horse."
