Robert Bone's Completed Pass has won twice and finished second from three starts at Pimlico Race Course, and the 7-year-old gelding will get another chance to add to that record in the $100,000 Jim McKay Turf Sprint Stakes May 15.
Completed Pass won the five-furlong dash in 2019 and finished second beaten a neck in last year's edition when it was held in October. He comes into this year's running off a win in the April 24 King T. Leatherbury Stakes over the same course and distance.
Claudio Gonzalez trains the Indiana-bred son of Pass Rush . Jockey Angel Cruz has the mount from the outside post 13.
WSS Racing and 4 G Racing's Hollis , who beat Completed Pass in this race last fall, will also be back Saturday. The 6-year-old Street Sense gelding pressed the leader in his last race, an April 22 allowance optional claiming race at Oaklawn Park, and came away with a head victory. The effort was a rebound from the April 3 Shakertown Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland, where he raced in seventh early and finished last.
Hollis is trained by John Ortiz, who has named Irad Ortiz Jr. to ride. He will break from post 5.
Hozier Tops Sir Barton Field
The most notable entry in the $100,000 Sir Barton Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles is Rebel Stakes (G2) runner-up Hozier . His Bob Baffert stablemate and Rebel winner Concert Tour is expected to compete in Saturday's Preakness Stakes (G1).
The March 13 Rebel was Hozier's first time in stakes company, and he came from seventh to finish second in only his third start. He didn't have the same run back in the April 10 Arkansas Derby (G1) where he finished last of six.
The Pioneerof the Nile colt is owned by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, Golconda Stable, Siena Farm, and Robert Masterson. Joel Rosario will ride from post 4.
Cash is King and LC Racing's Dream Big Dreams steps up after rallying from seventh to break his maiden in his third start March 14 at Laurel Park. Brittany Russell trains the Maryland-bred Bandbox colt. Sheldon Russell has the mount from the outside post 6.
Chub Wagon Puts Record on Line in Skipat
Daniel Lopez and George Chestnut's Chub Wagon is undefeated in five career starts and will try to extend that streak in the $100,000 Runhappy Skipat Stakes. The 4-year-old Hey Chub filly will step up in the six-furlong event as she heads outside her Parx Racing base for only the second time. She won her stakes debut last out, the April 27 Unique Bella Stakes, against other Pennsylvania-breds with a front-running 7 1/2-length score. Oritz Jr. will ride for trainer Guadalupe Preciado from post 5.
Five Hellions Farm's speedy Dontletsweetfoolya won five straight races to end 2020, including the Primonetta and Willa On the Move stakes at Laurel. The 4-year-old Stay Thirsty filly will try to rebound Saturday from a seventh-place run in the Feb. 20 Runhappy Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G3). Jevian Toldeo retains the mount for trainer Lacey Gaudet from post 6.
French Empire has won four straight races at the allowance level. She'll step up to stakes company for the first time in her first start for trainer Brad Cox and owners Ten Strike Racing, Michael Kisber, and Little Red Feather Racing.
Never Enough Time , winner of this race when run last fall, is also among the entries, along with multiple stakes-placed winners Club Car and Casual .
T D Dance Steps Back Up in James W. Murphy
Madaket Stables, Wonder Stable, Paul Farr, and Team Hanley's T D Dance will get a second try at stakes company in the $100,000 James W. Murphy Stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile on turf.
Brad Cox trains the 3-year-old Can the Man colt, who last out won a 1 1/16-mile turf allowance optional claiming race March 27 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. T D Dance was fifth in his only stakes start, the Feb. 27 Black Gold Stakes at Fair Grounds, after being bumped at the break and racing wide. Javier Castellano has the mount from the outside post 8.
Paradise Farms and David Staudacher's Kasim will try to rebound from a sixth-place finish in the April 24 William Walker Stakes at Churchill Downs, where he bobbled at the start. The Munnings colt trained by Mike Maker was second in the March 20 Texas Glitter Stakes at Gulfstream Park, his stakes debut. He rallied from seventh to miss the pacesetter by three-quarters of a length that day. Luis Saez has the call from post 3. The James W. Murphy will be Kasim's first race beyond 5 1/2 furlongs.
Annex Racing's Charles Chrome , a 3-year-old California Chrome gelding, has won two of three starts and placed second in the other, all at Indiana Grand. The Reeve McGaughey trainee has not raced since taking a turf sprint allowance in November. Carol Cedeno is named to ride from post 7.
The Daily Racing Form reported that Breeze Easy's multiple sprint stakes winner Outadore is expected to scratch, per trainer Wesley Ward.
