Yuesheng Zhang's Sword Zorro will stretch out a furlong following a one-mile stakes win when he heads the $100,000 Cinema Stakes May 23 at Santa Anita Park. Originally run in 1946 at Hollywood Park, the Cinema has attracted a field of five sophomores at a mile and one eighth on turf.
A 3-year-old colt by Zoffany , Sword Zorro has made two starts since imported to the U.S. from overseas, running fifth behind talented Earls Rock in the Feb. 5 Baffle Stakes prior to taking the one-mile Singletary Stakes at Santa Anita April 25 for trainer John Sadler. In the latter race, he rallied from off the pace to win by three-quarters of a length under Umberto Rispoli, who rides him back on Sunday.
Sword Zorro has a record of 2-3-1 from seven starts, all on turf.
