By My Standards wins the Oaklawn Mile Stakes at Oaklawn Park

Allied Racing Stable and Spendthrift Farm's By My Standards  cut back to a mile—the shortest distance he has run since his first race in 2018—in his 5-year-old debut and overcame a wide trip to win by a nose. The son of Goldencents   will try for another win at the distance May 31 in the $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile Stakes (G3) at Lone Star Park

Trained by Bret Calhoun, By My Standards shortened up to eight furlongs last out in the Oaklawn Mile April 10 at Oaklawn Park. He got the bob at the wire over 2020 Pat Day Mile Presented by LG&E and KU (G2) winner Rushie . The multiple graded stakes winner will have regular rider Gabe Saez aboard as he breaks from post 3 carrying the co-high weight of 124 pounds. Both the Oaklawn Mile and Steve Sexton Mile are run around two turns.

Sharing the high weight will be Madaket Stables, Gary Barber, and Tom Kagele's C Z Rocket , who stretches out beyond sprint distances for the first time since April 2020. Trained by Peter Miller, C Z Rocket went on a five-race win streak last year after being claimed for $40,000. He ended the season with a runner-up finish to Whitmore  in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland, but returned this year to best Whitmore twice at Oaklawn Park—first in the March 13 Hot Springs Stakes then again April 10 in the Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3), both times with late runs. Florent Geroux, aboard for both previous starts this year, retains the mount on the 7-year-old City Zip gelding, who drew the outside post 8.

Two other horses are coming into the Steve Sexton Mile off of Oaklawn starts. Ten Strike Racing and Madaket Stables' Warrior's Charge  and Ed and Susie Orr's Silver Prospector  cut back a furlong after finishing fifth and sixth, respectively, in the April 17 Oaklawn Handicap (G2). Warrior's Charge was second in the 2020 Oaklawn Handicap behind By My Standards.

Joe Peacock's Sheriff Brown  makes the step back up to stakes company off three straight allowance-level wins for trainer Todd Fincher. The 5-year-old Curlin   gelding last out won by four lengths racing over the Steve Sexton Mile's course and distance April 23.

Hunka Burning Love , Harvey Wallbanger , and Mo Mosa  complete the field.

Missing from the entries is Knicks Go , who was rerouted from the Steve Sexton Mile to target the June 5 Hill 'n' Dale Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Belmont Park. The winner of the Met Mile receives an automatic berth in the Nov. 6 Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Del Mar. Knicks Go won the World Championships event last year at Keeneland.
