Love Candy wins a maiden special weight at Golden Gate Fields

Love Candy  became the first winner for freshman sire Danzing Candy   when the 2-year-old colt won his debut at Golden Gate Fields May 28 in a $30,000 maiden special weight.

The Ed Moger Jr. trainee raced in fourth early in Golden Gate's third race under Francisco Duran before rallying four-wide for a 2 3/4-length victory. He raced five furlongs on Tapeta in 1:00.87, paying $15.80 to win.

Bred in California by owner Stuart Tsujimoto, Love Candy is the first starter and winner for the Tapizar mare Love Winning , who earned $45,015 and scored three wins over her racing career. The dam also has a yearling colt by Slew's Tiznow  and foaled a Curlin to Mischief   filly this year.

Danzing Candy, by Twirling Candy   out of the Songandaprayer  mare Talkin and Singing , entered stud in 2018. During his racing career, he captured the San Felipe Stakes (G2) as a 3-year-old in 2016 for trainer Cliff Sise Jr., and the Lone Star Park Handicap (G3) and San Carlos Stakes (G2) in 2017 at age 4 for trainer Bob Baffert. He raced for Jim and Dianne Bashor and his breeder, Halo Farms.

Love Candy was the second starter for Danzing Candy, following Takeittothebank , who ran sixth in a maiden special weight race at Santa Anita Park May 2.

The 8-year-old stallion stands for $5,000 at Rancho San Miguel in California.
