The family and friends of the late Steve Dance, 78, will have a celebration of life in the Timonium Sales Pavilion at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md., on Wednesday, June 16, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Dance, who passed away May 25, devoted over half a century to his career as an auctioneer, both with his own Milton J. Dance Co. and with Thoroughbred auctioneers Fasig-Tipton, for whom he worked as a full-time auctioneer and bid spotter since 1972.
Dance was born in 1943 in the small, country town of Towson, just a few miles north of Baltimore. His uncle, "Laddie" Dance, Fasig-Tipton president Humphrey Finney's son John Finney, and Larry Ensor, all subsequent luminaries at Fasig-Tipton and all "Towsonites," befriended the younger Dance and found a variety of jobs for him at a rapidly expanding number of the company's nationwide auctions. His work ethic, reliability, and enthusiasm earned him a full-time position at Fasig-Tipton in 1972. Dance did not miss a single Fasig-Tipton auction in a career which lasted for 50 years.
The sales pavilion at the Maryland State Fairgrounds, where Fasig-Tipton conducted its sales, is accessed through the Marquee (South) Gate on York Road, near its intersection with Timonium Road.
