The Maryland Jockey Club announced March 18 it will offer a Pick 5 with an industry-low 12% takeout when Pimlico Race Course opens April 2 for its spring meet.
The MJC also said it will also offer patrons a 10-cent Rainbow 6, the wager that the racetrack operating company said has "produced life-changing payoffs at Gulfstream Park over the past four years."
The 10-cent Rainbow 6 produced a payoff to one bettor of $3.59 million in 2013 and the 20-cent version of the bet produced a payout in 2014 of $6.6 million, MJC said.
The Rainbow 6 will be offered on the last six races of each race day at Pimlico. The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60% of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 40% is carried over to the jackpot pool.
"In talking to our bettors this winter, the two things they brought up was their interest in a Pick 5 with a low takeout and with the Rainbow 6. We are looking forward to instituting these bets at Pimlico," MJC general manager Sal Sinatra said in a release.
