St. George Stable's homebred Letruska , a 5-year-old daughter of Super Saver , easily won her second consecutive grade 1 stakes June 5 when she wired an abbreviated field of five in $500,000 Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park.
Letruska, the 9-5 favorite, broke quickly on top in the 1 1/16-mile race and was tracked by Shedaresthedevil and longshot Water White . The order of the top three remained unchanged until the stretch where Bonny South gained momentum to finish second but was about three lengths behind Letruska. The final time was 1:41.25. The winner is trained by Fausto Guitierrez and was ridden by Jose Ortiz, who celebrated his third win of the day.
Because the Odgen Phipps is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "Win and You're In" race, Letruska earned an automatic bid in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).
Letruska entered the Ogden Phipps off a nose victory over champion Monomoy Girl in the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) at Oaklawn Park.
Shedaresthedevil finished third.
