Based on weather data which forecasted significant, accumulating snowfall on Friday, March 20, the New York Racing Association has cancelled live racing for that day at Aqueduct Racetrack.
"This action is being undertaken in a prudent and a proactive step to prevent the loss of two days of racing, and to prepare the track for Saturday's inaugural Claiming Championships, with 89 horses competing in 10 races," read a release. "This will ensure that the track is in the best possible condition for Saturday's event."
Maintenance crews were to seal the Aqueduct inner track the morning of March 20, a step to permit the rapid and efficient removal of snowfall following the completion of the Friday storm. Further harrowing of the track surface will prepare it for full operations on Saturday, March 21, when live racing is scheduled to resume.
Aqueduct and the Belmont Café remain open for simulcasting.
