Calumet Farm's Bueno Bueno becomes the first winner for Lord Nelson July 2 at Ellis Park

Spendthrift Farm's freshman sire Lord Nelson   sired his first winner July 2 when his son Bueno Bueno  won a 5 1/2-furlong maiden claiming race at Ellis Park by an impressive 7 1/4 lengths in his second lifetime start.

Bred in Kentucky by Mike Abraham, Bueno Bueno is raced by Calumet Farm, which bought the colt for $55,000 at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale out of the Legacy Bloodstock consignment. Bueno Bueno is trained by Jack Sisterson.

Abraham bred the colt out of the winning Bertrando mare Multitasker, who is a half sister to multiple grade 1 winner and 2013 champion 2-year-old male Shared Belief. The mare has produced nine foals of which three have started and two are winners.

Lord Nelson, a 9-year-old son of Pulpit, continues to beat the odds as a young stallion. A three-time grade 1 winner and undefeated at 4, the colt was the anticipated favorite for the 2016 TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) but had to be scratched after a cut on his leg became infected. The injury developed into laminitis, which can be fatal, and forced him to miss the 2017 breeding season. Lord Nelson recovered and bred 127 mares his first year at stud, 131 mares in 2019, and 123 mares in 2020.

Lord Nelson's first crop was well received as yearlings, generating a $84,973 average from 37 sold. His first crop as 2-year-olds in training averaged $102,865. He stands for $10,000.
