Keeneland has updated the format of its flagship Keeneland September Yearling Sale to present four sessions before a dark day (Sept. 17), the Lexington operation announced July 6.

Previously adjusted based upon the total number of inspected yearlings, the September Sale will now feature a two-day Book 1, which kicks off Sept. 13-14.

The first four sessions (Book 1 and Book 2) will be held consecutively prior to the dark day in an effort to showcase the largest number of horses to domestic and international buyers. Thus, the first week of selling will take place Sept. 13-16.

"We made this adjustment after consulting with numerous buyers and sellers who continue to express their strong desire to see a significant number of yearlings before a break," read a Tuesday release in part from Keeneland president and CEO Shannon Arvin and vice president of sales Tony Lacy.

Book 1 sessions begin at 1:00 p.m. ET each day, with horses listed alphabetically by dam. Book 2 sessions start at 11:00 a.m., beginning the consignor regular rotation. Eight sessions will be conducted Sept. 18-25 beginning at 10:00 a.m. each day.

"We are keenly aware that the goal is to create a consistent format year to year," the Tuesday release also stated. "We are committed to meeting that goal, and to ensuring a stable marketplace for buyers and sellers alike."
