Dortmund recorded his first workout since winning the San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) the morning of March 21 at Santa Anita Park.

The undefeated son of Big Brown   owned by Kaleem Shah was clocked at 1:12 going six furlongs with jockey Martin Garcia aboard, and trainer Bob Baffert said the colt galloped out seven furlongs in 1:24 4/5.

"He worked really well," Baffert said. "It's been two weeks (since the San Felipe) and it worked out well, because there was a horse in front, so he picked up company, and usually when he goes by (a horse) he loses interest. He picked up a decent worker."

Dortmund will look to win his fourth straight Southern California Triple Crown prep race as a likely entrant in the $1 million Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) April 4.

"To me, I really see him starting to mature now," Baffert said. "He's filling out that big frame of his and I couldn't be happier with the way he worked today."

Stablemate and fellow classics candidate American Pharoah was also on the track galloping Saturday morning.
