Castellano Off Mounts, Plans to Return Friday

Description:

Jockey Javier Castellano will be off his scheduled mounts Nov. 14 at Aqueduct Racetrack, a day after he was unseated following the conclusion of the ninth race.

Castellano, who leads the nation's jockeys in both victories (317) and prize money earned ($25.5 million) in 2013, plans to resume riding Nov. 15 at Aqueduct after a day to recover from soreness, said agent Matt Muzikar. Castellano has eight scheduled mounts Friday, eight more on Saturday when he is aboard morning line favorite Hyper in the Red Smith Handicap (gr. IIIT), and eight on Sunday.

The 36-year-old rider was treated and released Wednesday night from North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y., where all tests came back negative, said Muzikar.

Castellano was unseated when his mount, Atlantic Dream, stumbled and fell after finishing last in the 1 1/16-mile maiden race. Castellano was transported to First Aid and then taken to the hospital complaining of pain in his chest.

Atlantic Dream walked off the track.
