Florida stallion and graded stakes winner Fury Kapcori died at age 11 last month due to complications from colic, Journeyman Stallions' Brent Fernung said July 12.
"He got a case of enteritis which then turned into colitis and he went downhill in a hurry after that," Fernung said. "It was unfortunate because we loved the horse."
Fury Kapcori's death was first reported by the Paulick Report. Fernung said the son of Tiznow became sick about a month ago.
Fury Kapcori entered stud at Journeyman in 2016. From three crops of racing age, he has sired 17 winners from 38 starters to date, two of which are black-type winners—High On Gin , winner of the Happy Ticket and My Trusty Cat stakes last year, and The Goddess Lyssa , who took the Minaret Stakes this season.
Produced from the Go for Gin mare Gin Running, Fury Kapcori was a full brother to grade 2 winner Tizfiz, dam of multiple grade 1 winner Tiz the Law .
He was bred in Kentucky by Diamond A Racing Corp. and purchased by Jerry Hollendorfer for $100,000 from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment to the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Trained and co-owned by Hollendorfer, along with Rick Awtrey and George Todaro, Fury Kapcori raced from ages 2-5, collecting a 6-5-1 record and $521,040 from 18 starts. He won the Precisionist Stakes (G3), Santana Mile Stakes, and Charlie Palmer Futurity, and was second in the CashCall Futurity (G1) and Californian Stakes (G2).
