Brother to Indian Blessing Gets First Winner

Shug's Hope won the sixth race at Sunland Park March 21 and became the first winner for New Mexico stallion Shame On Charlie, a full brother to dual champion filly Indian Blessing.
 
A first-time starter, Shug's Hope tracked the early pacesetter from second and took command in the stretch en route to a 1 3/4-length triumph under Miguel Perez . The 2-year-old New Mexico-bred filly, who covered the 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race in :51.37, is trained by Barbara Brown for owners/breeders Jerry and Sheree Cannon. She was bred from the winning Storm of Goshen mare Shug's Midnight and is from the family of Canadian grade III winner Stage Classic, who was grade I-placed at Woodbine
 
Shame On Charlie, an 11-year-old son of Indian Charlie, compiled a 3-2-0 career line from 13 starts while racing in New Mexico and California. His racing career was plagued by injury. His dam is Flying Chevron's grade III-winning daughter Shameful, who also produced 2007 champion 2-year-old filly and 2008 champion sprinter Indian Blessing, as well as half brother Roman Threat, a grade III winner.
 
Shame On Charlie stands the 2015 season privately at Ernest Riggs Farm in New Mexico.
