Sangarius wins the 2019 Hampton Court Stakes at Ascot Racecourse

Juddmonte's 2019 Hampton Court Stakes (G3) winner Sangarius  has been retired from racing and purchased for stallion duties by Haras Santa Rita da Serra, the breeders of recent Brazilian group 1 winner Jackson Pollock and Triple Crown heroine Janelle Monae.

The son of Kingman  was a high-class performer for the late Prince Khalid Abdullah's operation, winning the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Flying Scotsman Stakes and was fourth in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes (G1) as a juvenile before his impressive Royal Ascot success the following year for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.

Sangarius, who won four of his 10 starts in total, was purchased in a deal brokered by Felipe Lopes.

Lopes, who recently launched his own agency Lopes Bloodstock and has worked for Juddmonte for over nine years, said: "The buyer was looking for a horse with a very good pedigree like Sangarius, who comes from the family of Hasili and is also very like his father."

Sangarius, who also won the listed Betway Quebec Stakes in December and was second in the Melodi Media Huxley Stakes (G2) and Coral Brigadier Gerard Stakes (G3) this term, is the type of horse which has always appealed to the South American market, according to Lopes.

He added: "He has a lot of speed, like Kingman, which is very important for Brazilian racing. The buyer absolutely loves Kingman and the horse is a lovely model—standing at 16.1 hands, he is the perfect size for Brazil.

"He started his quarantine on Friday and he will fly over Aug. 29 with Outstrip ."

The 5-year-old is a half brother to the winning Frankel  colt Hydros and the group 3-placed Oasis Dream  filly Emergent. Sangarius will be the first son of Kingman to stand in Brazil.

Sangarius is one of 19 individual group winners for the Banstead Manor Stud resident and is out of a half sister to 2013 Darley Prix Jean Romanet (G1) winner and Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1T) runner-up Romantica  in Trojan Queen.

Trojan Queen, by Empire Maker, is out of brilliant mare Bank's Hill, a daughter of Danehill and the phenomenal Juddmonte blue hen producer Hasili. Sangarius hails from the family of top level international performers Dansili , Cacique, Champs Elysees , Intercontinental , and Heat Haze .
