Lancaster Bomber , a group 1 winner in Ireland who placed in three top-level stakes in North America, died July 13 at age 7, according to a tweet from South Africa's Drakenstein Stud.

"It's with a sad and heavy heart that we say goodbye to Lancaster Bomber today," the farm announced on the platform. "He collapsed this morning in his paddock from a suspected heart attack. He was a young stallion with a bright future, and we are very sad that we will not see the best of him. Rest in peace."

A son of War Front  , Lancaster Bomber won his final start in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (G1) in 2018 when racing for associates of Coolmore Stud and trainer Aidan O'Brien.

Long before that finale, he competed in upper-tier stakes, running second in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes (G1) and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) in 2016 at age 2. The following year in 2017, he finished a close fourth in the QIPCO Two Thousand Guineas (G1), the St. James's Palace Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot, and was also runner-up to World Approval  in both the Ricoh Woodbine Mile (G1T) and Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) in North America.

A half brother to crack miler Excelebration  and group 3 winner Mull of Killough , he joined Gaynor Rupert's Drakenstein Stud in South Africa beginning with the 2019 Southern Hemisphere breeding season.
