More Moonshine wins by 6 1/2 lengths on debut at Saratoga Race Course

More Moonshine , a full sister Moonshine Memories —a multiple grade 1 winner at 2—waited nearly a year longer than her precocious sibling to make her debut but nonetheless dazzled first time out in the seventh race July 18 at Saratoga Race Course.

The 3-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon went to post at odds of 6-1 in a salty field of blue-blooded maidens that included Perfect Grace , a daughter of 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace  and a full sister to Saturday's Molly Pitcher Stakes (G3) winner Graceful Princess , and Mezcal , a daughter of Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) heroine Cathryn Sophia .

On a track listed as muddy, drenched by recent thunderstorms, favored Equal Pay  forged her way to the front and clicked off an opening quarter in :22.44. With two horses beat down the backstretch, More Moonshine strode comfortably in the three-path off the rail under jockey Junior Alvarado before advancing on the leaders with striking momentum as the field headed past the half-mile pole in :45.49. The Bill Mott trainee swung into the lane just behind Perfect Grace, who had taken over the lead from a retreating Equal Pay at the top of the stretch. With six furlongs run in 1:10.69, More Moonshine kicked into high gear, roaring past Perfect Grace down the center of the track and splashing home a 6 1/2-length winner.

The Summer Wind Equine homebred stopped the timer in 1:23.59 for seven furlongs. She earned $55,000 for the win.

More Moonshine is out of the Unbridled's Song mare Unenchantedevening, herself a half sister to 1997 Horse of the Year and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) champion Favorite Trick. This is also the female family of grade 2 winner and millionaire Favorite Tale, grade 3 winner and recently late sire Fury Kapcori, and grade 2 winner Tizfiz, who is dam of multiple grade 1 winner Tiz the Law  .

Moonshine Memories, an earner of $549,056 on the track, is the only graded stakes winner Unenchantedevening has produced to date. In addition to Moonshine Memories, Unenchantedevening has produced stakes winner Indian Evening  and the stakes-placed Mo for the Money . The 17-year-old mare foaled a colt by Justify   in February. Her 2-year-old colt, Lunar Legacy, a full brother to More Moonshine and Moonshine Memories, has yet to start. Lunar Legacy sold for $375,000 to Evergreen Bloodstock at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where he was consigned by Lane's End.
