The late nomination period for this year's Triple Crown ends March 23 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
Horses nominated at a fee of $6,000 before the Monday night deadline will join the 429 made eligible during the early nomination period. The fee covers the three grade I events: the May 2 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands, the May 16 Preakness Stakes, and the June 6 Belmont Stakes.
The late nomination period began Jan. 18. In 2014 there were 10 horses nominated.
Any 3-year-olds not nominated for the Triple Crown during the early or late nomination periods can become eligible via supplemental nomination fees due at time of entry; once paid the horse is eligible for the subsequent races in the series. The fee is $200,000 for the Kentucky Derby, $150,000 for the Preakness, and $75,000 for the Belmont.
