Best Time , a son of Tapit out of champion Take Charge Brandi , topped the Keeneland July Digital Sale July 27, selling for $29,500 to KDE Equine. The 3-year-old colt was consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent, as Hip 6.
The gray or roan colt has three starts to date with trainer Steven Asmussen, hitting the board twice in maiden special weights going six furlongs on the dirt at Ellis Park and Indiana Grand. He went unsold at $775,000 in the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, not meeting his reserve. Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings bred the colt in Kentucky in partnership with Elevage II and raced him in partnership with Phoenix Thoroughbred III.
His dam, Take Charge Brandi, was the 2014 champion 2-year-old filly. The daughter of Giant's Causeway won the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), Starlet Stakes (G1), and Delta Downs Princess Stakes (G3), and was runner up in the Schuylerville Stakes (G3) her juvenile year. As a 3-year-old, she won the Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn Park for owner Willis Horton and trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
Take Charge Brandi hails from the family 2013 Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady and is a half sister to grade 1-winning millionaire Omaha Beach and group 1-placed Courage Under Fire . Her 2-year-old son by Tapit, Courvoisier, is in training at Monmouth Park with published works, her yearling filly is by Justify , and this year's foal is a filly by Quality Road . She was reported bred to Uncle Mo for 2022.
The Keeneland July Digital Sale saw four horses from 10 cataloged change hands for gross sales of $70,000. The next Keeneland Digital Sale is Aug. 31; entries open July 28.
