Grade 2 Winner Kanthaka Retired From Racing

Kanthaka wins the 2018 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita Park

West Point Thoroughbreds' grade 2 winner Kanthaka  has been retired from racing and arrived Aug. 1 at his new home in Oregon with West Point partner John Haines, according to an Aug. 2 tweet from the ownership.

"Graded stakes winner Kanthaka is retired from racing. Just yesterday he arrived at his new home at a beautiful ranch in Oregon. Thank you to partner (Haines) for adopting the K Man and giving him a wonderful forever home," West Point wrote.

Raced by West Point through all 17 starts, Kanthaka's biggest scores came in 2018 at Santa Anita Park, where he won the San Vicente Stakes (G2) and Lazaro Barrera Stakes (G3) when trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. The now 6-year-old Jimmy Creed   gelding placed in six other graded events, including when second, beaten just a neck by Oleksandra , in the 2020 Jaipur Stakes (G1T) at Belmont Park for trainer Graham Motion.

Kanthaka has raced three times this year. His best finish was a third in a May 14 allowance optional claimer on the Belmont turf. He last ran June 6, finishing fifth in an allowance optional claimer on the same course, and retires with a 3-2-5 record and earnings of $456,635.

Kanthaka was bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm out of the Noonmark mare Sliced Bread. He sold to West Point for $140,000 out of the King's Equine consignment to the 2017 Barretts March Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.
