Dayoutoftheoffice , one of the top 2-year-old fillies of 2020, has been retired due to "wear and tear," said Tim Hamm, her trainer and co-owner.

The Kentucky-bred 3-year-old daughter of Into Mischief   had been working at Thistledown toward a now-bypassed start in the Longines Test Stakes (G1) Aug. 7 at Saratoga Race Course. After a 3-for-4 campaign at 2, she started twice this year for Hamm and co-owner Siena Farm, running second in the Eight Belles Stakes Presented by Smithfield (G2) at Churchill Downs April 30 and fourth in the Acorn Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park June 5. Her career earnings stand at $642,300.

In a release, Siena Farm said she exited a July 31 workout "slightly off and diagnostic X-rays revealed mild changes," preventing her from pursuing the Test.

"She has a great broodmare career in front of her, and with what she had done, you have to have a pretty big upside to run to improve on it," Hamm continued. "After the wear and tear of racing, it looks like it is time for her to retire happy and go on to her next career."

Daily Racing Form first reported her retirement.

Last year Dayoutoftheoffice captured a maiden race in her debut at Gulfstream Park before taking the Schuylerville Stakes (G3) at Saratoga and the Frizette Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. She then set the pace in last fall's 1 1/16-mile Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Keeneland before settling for second behind Vequist , the eventual divisional champion.

"I don't think there's a more talented racehorse in her generation. I really don't. I think she had as much talent as any of them," Hamm said.

"We would like to thank our partner and trainer Timothy Hamm for his excellent care of the filly. She was campaigned to near perfection in her 2-year-old season in 2020," Siena Farm remarked in their release.

The farm indicated Dayoutoftheoffice would be entered in The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's selected breeding stock sale in Lexington.

One of three grade 1 winners bred by Siena Farm over its existence, Dayoutoftheoffice is out of the winning Indian Charlie  mare Gottahaveadream , who has produced six foals, three starters, and two winners. The dam's most recent foals are a 2-year-old unraced Carpe Diem   filly named Sovanna and a yearling colt by Bolt d'Oro  .
