Senor Buscador wins the 2020 Remington Springboard Mile at Remington Park
The $400,000 Remington Springboard Mile Stakes, the top 2-year-old stakes of the 2021 Remington Park Thoroughbred meet, will now be contested Dec. 17, two days earlier than initially planned. The evening will also serve as the final raceday of the season.
This marks the second consecutive year the Springboard Mile and its supporting undercard will be contested on a Friday night.
The Springboard has served as a solid late-season stakes opportunity for 2-year-olds with some participants later running in the 3-year-old classics the next spring. Long Range Toddy , Combatant , Suddenbreakingnews , and Will Take Charge all utilized the Springboard Mile prior to their eventual starts in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1).
Will Take Charge was the most successful of the group during his sophomore year, becoming the champion 3-year-old male of 2013.
In addition to the Springboard Mile, other stakes on closing night, Dec. 17, include the $100,000 Trapeze Stakes, the $100,000 She's All In Stakes, and two stakes for Oklahoma-breds, the $70,000 Jim Thorpe Stakes and $70,000 Useeit Stakes.
The $100,000 Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial Stakes, originally scheduled as part of the undercard of Springboard Mile night, has been moved to Nov. 19.
Remington Park added racing Sept. 29 and Nov. 11, offsetting the two-day earlier end of the meet. The season still totals 67 racing dates.
