CTBA NorCal Yearling Sale Sees Strong Gains

The Aug. 10 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Northern California Yearling Sale held at Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, Calif., posted strong gains across the board from 2020, with average yearling sales price of nearly $10,000, highest in six years.

A filly consigned as Hip 60 by promising new stallion Stanford   was the sale topper at $45,000. She is out of the Broken Vow mare Jeannie's Genie, bred by Michael Allen, consigned by Easterbrook Livestock and purchased by Robert Jones. Jeannie's Genie, who hails from the family of graded stakes winner Harvey Wallbanger  and stakes winners Oliver Twist and All of Her Twist, is the dam of one winner from one foal to race. She was bred to Danzing Candy   this past term.

The highest-priced colt sold for $36,000 to GCCI. Consigned as Hip 62 by Hanson's River Ranch the Vronsky   colt is out of the Tizbud mare Just Lookn Again and was bred by West 12 Ranch & Craig Allen. Just Lookin Again is a full sister to the graded stakes-placed Nina's Dragon and half to stakes-placed runners Trish's Diamond and Just a Tizzy.

The average yearling sales price of $9,977 was nearly 40% higher than last year's $7,217 and is the highest since $11,537 in 2015. Gross yearling sales on Tuesday were $917,900, compared to $505,200 last year for 69 sold. Yearling median price doubled from last year's $3,000 to $6,000.
