

Rupp Racing's Owendale , a multiple graded stakes winner who made more than $1.5 million, has died from colic, trainer Brad Cox confirmed Aug. 11 in a text message.
The late-running son of Into Mischief last raced April 17 at Oaklawn Park, finishing fourth in the Oaklawn Handicap (G2). Later this spring, he trained at Churchill Downs, working a half-mile in :48 4/5 there June 12.
A three-time grade 3 winner as a 3-year-old in 2019, Owendale also hit the board that year in the Preakness Stakes (G1), finishing third behind War of Will and Everfast . He closed out his 3-year-old campaign with a runner-up finish in the Clark Stakes Presented by Norton Healthcare (G1) at Churchill Downs.
He won his 4-year-old debut last year in the Blame Stakes at Churchill, the final victory of his 23-race career, though he would add further graded placings, including a third in the 2020 Clark. This year at 5, he made two starts prior to the Oaklawn Handicap, finishing third in the Razorback Handicap (G3) in Arkansas and second in the New Orleans Classic Stakes (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, he was a $200,000 yearling purchase by John Wentworth from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The late runner compiled a 6-for-23 record over four years of racing.
