Rideforthecause Sharp Heading Into CTT And TOC Stakes

Rideforthecause (outside) wins the Possibly Perfect Stakes at Santa Anita Park

Eight fillies and mares, led by graded stakes winners Neige Blanche , Rideforthecause , and Red Lark , get a test of stamina over 1 3/8 miles on turf in the $80,000 CTT and TOC Stakes Aug. 14 at Del Mar.

Alpha Delta Stables' Rideforthecause is the slight 5-2 favorite, followed by Neige Blanche and the grade 3 stakes-placed Tapwater , both at 3-1.

Rideforthecause, by Candy Ride  , has won five races and more than $360,000. All five of her tallies have come on turf, and she comes off a grass route score in the Possibly Perfect Stakes at Santa Anita Park June 13. Last year at 4, she won the Canadian Stakes Presented by the Japan Racing Association (G2T) at Woodbine, where her half brother Say the Word  became a grade 1 winner.

Haruya Yoshida's Red Lark is a local top-level winner, having won the Del Mar Oaks (G1T) last summer as a 3-year-old. Winless in four attempts this year, she is 6-1 with Mike Smith up for trainer Paddy Gallagher.

The Leonard Powell-trained Neige Blanche also earned grade 1 black type at 3 with a third in the 2020 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T). This May she won the Santa Barbara Stakes (G3T) at Santa Anita by a nose over Rideforthecause. She also won the Prix Cleopatre (G3) in France at 3.

The remainder of the field includes Crystalle , Catch the Eye , Ippodamia's Girl , and Global Brand .
