Wink wins the Melody of Colors Stakes at Gulfstream Park

Trainer Wesley Ward will saddle a strong pair of contenders in Hat Creek Racing's Illegal Smile  and Stonestreet Stables' Wink  for the Aug. 15 $120,000 Galway Stakes, a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint for sophomore fillies, at Saratoga Race Course.

Ward sent out the first and third-place finishers in the Aug. 11 Mahony Stakes with Arrest Me Red  and Into the Sunrise .

"Illegal Smile is breezing a lot like Arrest Me Red. She's calm and cool and collected. She just sits back and makes that one big run," Ward said. "Wink will just go right to the front."

Illegal Smile, by Camacho , graduated in last fall's Stewart Manor Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack in the final start of her 2-year-old year. She began her sophomore campaign with a fourth in the May 8 Mamzelle Overnight Stakes and a narrow second behind Galway-rival Goin' Good  in a June 12 allowance contest at Churchill Downs. Irad Ortiz Jr. has the call from post 6,

Wink, a two-time stakes winner, captured the March 20 Melody of Colors Stakes at Gulfstream Park before failing to hit the board in the Mamzelle behind her stablemate. The Midshipman filly will travel beyond five furlongs for the first time in the Galway from post 3 with Javier Castellano aboard.

"She's going to run a really nice race if the turf is the way it was on Wednesday," Ward said. "She wants no part of give in the ground."
