Going Global Captures Top-Level Score in Del Mar Oaks

Going Global  has been almost unstoppable since moving to Southern California from Ireland. She won her first four stateside races dating back to Valentine's Day—all stakes, three at the grade 3 level—and took another step up in the July 24 San Clemente Stakes (G2T) at Del Mar.

She rallied in that one-mile event, but Madone  came from farther back and got up to win by a half-length. 

Bettors of the $302,000 Del Mar Oaks (G1T) Aug. 21 were undeterred by that loss and sent Going Global off as the 7-5 favorite in the 1 1/8-mile event on firm turf. The 3-year-old Mehmas  filly did not disappoint. Under Flavien Prat, she emerged from midpack to take over in the home stretch and held her rivals at bay to win by a length.

The Del Mar Oaks was Prat's third graded stakes win on Saturday's card.

Going Global settled in fifth of nine along the inside while Javanica  posted early quarter-mile fractions of :24.35, :48.66, and 1:13.59. Prat had moved Going Global into the two path, then on the final turn bid between runners and brushed with longshot Ivy League  heading into the stretch. 

Javanica held on for a head advantage in the stretch, but faded as Going Global burst forward. Closing Remarks  raced off the pace on the inside and made a late effort after finding running room, but could not close the gap as Going Global completed the distance in 1:48.91.

Closing Remarks was second by three-quarters of a length over Fluffy Socks , who rallied down the outside from seventh. Feathers , Madone, Javanica, Ivy League, Soaring Sky , and Tetragonal  completed the order of finish. The winner returned $4.80 on a $2 win ticket.

Going Global was bred in Ireland by N. Hartery out of the Invasor  mare Wrood, whose 2-year-old son Mitbaahy  (Profitable ) earned black type earlier Saturday when third in the Julia Graves Roses Stakes at York. Wrood's 4-year-old son Finans Bay  (Kodiac ), her first foal, also recently earned black type by placing third in the Aug. 13 Fitzdares Royal Whip Stakes (G3) at the Curragh. The mare also has a yearling filly by U S Navy Flag  and produced a Saxon Warrior  filly this year.

In 10 career starts, Going Global has won six times and once finished second for earnings of $468,792.

Prior to being bought by her U.S. connections, she was a $16,987 purchase by Pioneer Racing from The Castlebridge Consignment to the 2019 Goffs Sportsman's Yearling Sale.

Private Mission Romps in Torrey Pines

Baoma Corporation's Private Mission  romped to a 6 1/2-length win in the $101,000 Torrey Pines Stakes (G3) at Del Mar, dusting a field of six other 3-year-old fillies.

The daughter of Into Mischief   was second early under Prat and pressed Lady Mystify  through fractions of :22.28 and :46.71. She advanced to be a length in front as three-quarters went in 1:11.91 then drew off under strong hand urging. Final time for the mile on the fast track was 1:37.89. The winner paid $4.00 as the even-money favorite.

"She broke really well from the gate and put me right into the race. She got a little aggressive down the backstretch, so I gave her a little bit of a breather until the turn for home," Prat said. "When I asked her, she really dug in and got it done. She won pretty easily."

I'm So Anna  finished second after racing off the pace. It was another 7 3/4 lengths back to Forest Caraway  in third. Lisette , Lady Mystify, Day Plan , and Jeanne B  completed the order of finish.

Private Mission, trained by Bob Baffert, has won three of four career starts and has earned $136,800.

"We didn't know what she was going to do, but we always thought she could run long," Baffert said. "This was a good spot and she passed the route test. That's very important. That's where all the money is."

She was bred in Kentucky by Mt Brilliant Broodmares out of the stakes-winning Unbridled mare Private Gift , who also produced multiple stakes winner Secret Someone  and multiple stakes-placed Profetiza . Private Gift is also the second dam of grade 1 winner Dunbar Road  and is a half sister to 2000 Kentucky Oaks (G1) heroine Secret Status . 

Baoma Corp., with Donato Lanni as agent, purchased Private Mission for $750,000 in 2019 from Lane's End's consignment to The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton's selected yearlings sale in New York.
