James Chapman and Stuart Tsujimoto's Ready to March became the first starter and winner for his sire Tom's Ready when he won his debut in wire-to-wire fashion Aug. 23 at Finger Lakes.
The dark bay or brown colt, also trained by Chapman, is from the first crop of Tom's Ready, who is now pensioned at Old Friends Retirement Farm in Georgetown, Ky. He bested five other rivals in the five-furlong maiden race for 2-year-olds and won by 1 3/4 lengths under jockey Luis Perez. The final time was 1:00.43 on the fast track.
Ready to March was bred in Kentucky by Mike Pietrangelo out of the War Front mare March On. He is his dam's first starter and winner from two foals of racing age. Will Win Stables paid $5,000 for the colt when he was consigned by Lane's End to the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Ready to March earned $15,960 from Monday's win.
Tom's Ready was trained by Dallas Steward for G M B Racing from ages 2 to 4 on the track. The now 8-year-old son of More Than Ready compiled over $1 million in earnings from a 5-4-3 record in 21 starts, highlighted by wins in the Woody Stephens Stakes (G2), Ack Ack Stakes (G3), and Bold Ruler Handicap (G3). He also placed in the Forego Stakes (G1).
After standing his first season at stud at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky, Tom's Ready moved to Red River Farms in Louisiana and retired to Old Friends in Nov. 2020.
