Indian Lake (inside) holds off Experienced to win the Bald Eagle Derby at Pimlico Race Course

The top three finishers from the July 24 Bald Eagle Derby at Pimlico Race Course will again duke it out in the $250,000 New Kent County Virginia Derby (G3T) Aug. 31 at Colonial Downs.

The Virginia Derby highlights an 11-race card that also features the Woodford Reserve Virginia Oaks and three other turf stakes. Carded as Race 10, it will be the final leg of Colonial's All-Stakes, All-Turf Pick-5 wager Tuesday.

Gap View Stables and Jagger's Indian Lake  was a front-running three-quarter-length winner of the 1 1/2-mile Bald Eagle Derby and cuts back to 1 1/8 miles for the Virginia Derby. Jamie Ness trains the 3-year-old Daredevil   gelding, who rose through the claiming and allowance ranks before capturing his first black-type win last out.

Though Indian Lake won the Bald Eagle Derby and has the experience of 17 lifetime starts, he is the co-second choice on the morning line at 5-1. Listed as the 7-2 favorite is Augustin Stable's Experienced , who rallied to be a close second in the Bald Eagle Derby in only his second lifetime start. The Temple City   gelding trained by Jonathan Thomas won by a nose on debut when he ran a mile June 21 in a Delaware Park maiden race.

Third in the Bald Eagle Derby was Madaket Stables' Wootton Asset . The Wootton Bassett  colt is three times stakes-placed, including when third in the July 3 Kent Stakes (G3T) at Dealware. Graham Motion trains the French-bred, who is also 5-1 on the morning line.

Also among the 12 Virginia Derby entries is Gallagher's Stud's Search for Truth , an 11 1/2-length maiden winner over this course and distance Aug. 10. Michael Dickinson trains the Tourist   colt, who has two lifetime starts.

Fillies will also run nine furlongs on the turf in the Virginia Oaks, which also attracted a field of 12 topped by last-out stakes winners Por Que No  and Flippant

Por Que No takes the Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth Park

Fano Racing's Por Que No is the 4-1 morning-line favorite. Trained by Kent Sweezey, she was a 4 1/2-length winner when she wired the June 26 Boiling Springs Stakes at Monmouth Park. The Wicked Strong   filly will stretch out an extra sixteenth of a mile Tuesday, her farthest distance yet. She won her first four starts of the season before finishing fourth in the May 1 Honey Ryder Stakes at Gulfstream Park ahead of the Boiling Springs.

G. Watts Humphrey Jr.'s Flippant , out of the owner's multiple grade 2 winner Frivolous , took five tries to break her maiden, but won her stakes debut one start later in the Aug. 7 KY Downs TVG Preview Dueling Grounds Oaks at Ellis Park. The Tapit   filly rallied from seventh after a stumbling start in that 1 1/16-mile event. Trained by Victoria Oliver, she is the 8-1 co-fourth choice.

DARRS' Gold for Kitten  is the 9-2 second choice off a nose victory in a 1 1/16-mile Colonial turf allowance July 19. Brendan Walsh trains the Kitten's Joy   filly, who is undefeated in four starts and makes her stakes debut.

The 6-1 third choice is GoldMark Farm and Arthur Applegate's Belle Belisa , a debut winner Aug. 10 over the Virginia Oaks' course and distance. The Irish-bred Lope de Vega  filly is trained by Dickinson.

The other turf stakes on Tuesday's card are the $150,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Old Nelson Stakes for fillies and mares 3 and up at 1 1/16 miles, the $100,000 Woodford Reserve Kitten's Joy Stakes for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles, and the $100,000 Exacta Systems Rosie's Stakes for 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs.
