Eclipse champion sprinter and freshman sire Drefong sired his first black-type winner Sept. 4 when his son Geoglyph won the Sapporo Nisai Stakes (G3) at Sapporo Racecourse.
Bred by Northern Farm out of the grade 1-placed stakes winner Aromatico, the colt is undefeated in two starts and has earned US$349,156 for Sunday Racing. Geoglyph won the 1 1/8-mile turf stakes by four lengths in a final time of 1:49.10. He is trained by Takaki Iwato and was ridden by Christophe Lemaire.
Drefong was bred in Kentucky by Frederick Allor, Michael Barnett, and Anthony Warrender. He sold as a weanling at the 2013 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $200,000 to Woods Edge Farm out of Blackburn Farm's consignment. Woods Edge resold him at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $450,000 to Susan and Charles Chu's Tanma Corp.
The colt went undefeated in four starts in 2016, taking the Ketel One King's Bishop Stakes (G1) and the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) en route to being named champion sprinter. He retired with a 6-0-0 record from nine starts and earnings of $1,538,385.
The Chus sold Drefong to Shadai Stallion Station in 2017 where he stands for a private fee.
A Medaglia d'Oro half brother to Drefong is entered as Hip 399A in the second session of the Keeneland September sale. Machmer Hall is the consignor and breeder of the yearling colt out of the Ghostzapper mare Eltimaas.
