Cistron , a grade 1 winner of $768,719, has been retired from racing and will enter stud next year at John Harris' Harris Farms outside Coalinga, Calif.

The versatile performer compiled a 6-7-6 record in 30 starts over varying distances and surfaces. His most prestigious victory for owner Hronis Racing and trainer John Sadler came in the 2019 Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) at Del Mar, after which he returned to win the San Simeon Stakes (G3T) in March 2020 at Santa Anita Park. Other stakes victories included the 2019 Kona Gold Stakes (G2) and 2017 Northern Spur Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

He raced twice after the 2020 San Simeon, running fifth in the Daytona Stakes (G3T) in May 2020 and fourth in this year's San Simeon.

Cistron is a 7-year-old son of The Factor   (War Front  ), a top-10 sire in 2020 who stood this year for an advertised fee of $17,500 at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky. In addition to Cistron, other high-class runners by The Factor include Charmaine's Mia , Bound for Nowhere , Noted and Quoted , and Factor This .

Bred in Kentucky by St. George Farm out of the winless Officer mare Major Allie , Cistron was consigned by Lane's End to the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where he was purchased by D. M. I. for $180,000. He is one of five winners from eight foals from his dam, six with racing experience.

Cistron is currently available for inspection, the farm said. A stud fee will be announced later this fall.
