The White House Sept. 20 announced plans to ease COVID-19 travel restrictions into the United States by foreign visitors from 33 countries, including the United Kingdom and the European Union, starting in November. The move is expected to clear the way to make it easier for foreign nationals to attend important equine-related events in the U.S., like the Nov. 5-6 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Del Mar in Southern California and the November breeding stock sales in Kentucky.
The new rules will require all foreign nationals from the impacted countries arriving in the U.S. to show proof of being fully vaccinated, according to the White House.
"This is very welcome news as Thoroughbred breeding and racing in the United States continues to rebound from the negative impacts of the coronavirus pandemic," said NTRA president and CEO Alex Waldrop.
Closely following the Breeders' Cup, which draws overseas competition, is The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select breeding stock sale in Lexington that is scheduled to take place Nov. 9. The Fasig-Tipton November sale will offer top race mares, broodmares, broodmare prospects, and weanlings. The Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, also in Lexington, is scheduled for Nov. 10-21 and catalogs broodmares, broodmare prospects, weanlings, horses of racing age, stallions, stallion prospects, and shares.
