Godolphin's homebred Famed , a half sister to four-time grade 1 winner Essential Quality , is set to make her debut Sept. 26 in the eighth race at Churchill Downs for trainer Brad Cox.
The Uncle Mo filly is the morning-line second choice in a field of nine 2-year-old fillies that will race six furlongs Sunday.
"She's training forward enough … she kind of has that Uncle Mo aggressiveness where she likes to train on and we are very happy with what we've seen so far," Cox said in an interview with BloodHorse in July. "She's a touch aggressive, but in a good way. Her works have been good enough to make me think she's a horse that will compete at the graded level."
Famed had her most recent work Sept. 18, breezing five furlongs from the gate in 1:00 flat on the main track at Churchill. Florent Geroux will be aboard for her first race.
Cox also gave a rundown of the differences and similarities between the siblings, stating the filly was a bigger "strapping" type.
"I do think this filly is going to be a two-turn (horse) just like him, she appears to have some stamina and some speed, which he had both, and those are two things you have to have to be a good racehorse," Cox said.
The siblings are out of the graded stakes-placed Elusive Quality mare Delightful Quality, a half sister to 2005 champion 2-year-old filly Folklore.
Famed will go up against program favorite Mommasgottarun , who was second in her Aug. 8 debut at Saratoga Race Course for trainer Tom Amoss and owner Joel Politi. Dream Lith beat the daughter of Maclean's Music by 2 1/4 lengths that day and went on to finish fifth in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) a month later.
Mommasgottarun returned to the Saratoga main track Aug. 29 but finished fifth after leading a pressured pace and fading near the finish in that six-furlong test.
MyRacehorse and Spendthrift Farm's Howboutdemapples will also be making her third start after finishing second in her July 10 debut at Ellis Park where she was only beaten by a neck. The Tiznow filly trained by Steve Asmussen raced again Aug. 20 at the same track and finished fourth.
At morning-line odds of 15-1, High Speed will make her debut for trainer Grant Forster. The Dialed In filly is the second foal out of the grade 3-winning Heatseeker mare Speed Seeker.
