Grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner and freshman sire Toews On Ice  sired his first winner Sept. 24 when his daughter Queen of the Ice  won a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Arapahoe Park.

The filly, a Colorado-bred homebred for Preston Neugebauer, was making her fifth career start at Arapahoe. She broke sharply and had command of the race in the stretch, drawing away to win by 1 3/4 lengths. Her final time was :54.52.

Queen of the Ice also is the first winner for stakes-placed Lady Contender, a daughter of Strong Contender  and twice-placed in the Zia Park Distaff Stakes. Lady Contender, raced in partnership by Neugebauer and Stacey Rushton, won 14 of 40 lifetime starts and earned $309,351.

Toews On Ice, an 8-year-old son of Archarcharch, won four stakes from 2 to 4, including the Bob Hope Stakes (G3) at Del Mar. He was also runner-up in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) in his last start of 2015. Toews On Ice went on to compile a 6-3-3 record from 17 career starts and earned $394,740 for original owners Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman and later for A and A Equine and Gino Roncelli. He was trained by Bob Baffert at the start of his career and later trained by Justin Evans. The stallion, bred by Lakland Farm in Kentucky, is a full brother to multiple grade 2-placed winner Exuberance.

The stallion stands at Stretchrun Thoroughbreds in New Mexico for $1,000.
