Willow Grace Farm and Michael Lund Petersen's Grace Adler , a romping winner of the TVG Del Mar Debutante (G1), heads a field of seven 2-year-old fillies as she stretches out for the $200,000 Chandelier Stakes (G2) Oct. 1 at Santa Anita Park.
The 1 1/16-mile Chandelier is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series, awarding the winner a berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Grace Adler was a debut winner July 31 at Del Mar when she won by three-quarters of a length sprinting five furlongs. When upped to seven furlongs in the Sept. 5 Del Mar Debutante, she rallied from sixth and carried on to an 11 1/4-length victory.
"Grace Adler is a really good filly and when she started to make her move, you could tell by (announcer) Trevor Denman's voice that she was really making up the ground," Baffert said after the Debutante.
Flavien Prat, who returns to ride Grace Adler, said after the filly's last race: "Bob just told me that she wasn't as fast as the other fillies but that she'd come running. He was certainly right."
Grace Adler, a daughter of Curlin , was a $700,000 purchase by Petersen, with Donato Lanni as agent, from Blue Heaven Farm at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase.
Red Baron's Barn and Rancho Temescal's Dance to the Music , who was second in the Del Mar Debutante, also comes back in the Chandelier. Mark Glatt trains the Maclean's Music filly, who was a $575,000 purchase from consignor Paul Sharp at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.
The other stakes winner entered is Little Red Feather Racing's Elm Drive . She was an eight-length debut winner for trainer Phil D'Amato at Los Alamitos Race Course in June, then held on for a head victory in the Aug. 6 Sorrento Stakes (G2) at Del Mar. The Mohaymen filly was bumped at the start of the Del Mar Debutante before fading from the lead. She was eased and finished seventh.
Talla Racing's Electric Ride steps up to graded company after a single start, but impressed with an 8 1/2-length score going six furlongs Aug. 28 at Del Mar.
"She's not a real big filly, but she won off by eight down there at Del Mar," trainer John Sadler said. "She's a Daredevil . It seems like those Daredevil fillies have been running well long on the dirt, so I'm anxious to try her."
Daredevil is the sire of 2020 Preakness Stakes (G1)-winning filly Swiss Skydiver , as well as last year's Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Shedaresthedevil .
Also having one start under her belt is Ain't Easy , an Into Mischief filly who won by 5 1/4 lengths racing 5 1/2 furlongs Aug. 21 at Del Mar. D'Amato trains for Old Bones Racing Stable, Michael Lombardi, and Joey Platts.
D'Amato has a third entry in H & E Ranch's Desert Dawn , a Cupid daughter who broke her maiden second time out.
Rounding out the field is the Baffert-trained Censorship . Mike Pegram, Karl Watson, and Paul Weitman's Tonalist filly is still a maiden after three starts but was second in the last two, most recently at a mile behind Desert Dawn.
