Shedaresthedevil wins the 2020 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs

Shedaresthedevil , the 2020 Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner and a current leader in the distaff division, will be offered at The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select breeding stock sale in Lexington Nov. 9. Hunter Valley Farm will consign the 4-year-old daughter of Daredevil   on behalf of owners Qatar Racing, Flurry Racing Stables, and Big Aut Farms.

A graded stakes performer each year from 2 to 4, Shedaresthedevil is a three-time grade 1 winner and seven-time graded stakes winner with current earnings of $2,291,458. Last year at 3, she defeated the best of her generation to win the 146th Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in 1:48.28, the fastest time for 1 1/8 miles in the race's history. That classic win highlighted an outstanding 3-year-old season that included five graded stakes wins or placings, resulting in her being named an Eclipse finalist for the 3-year-old filly division.

This year at 4, Shedaresthedevil has been nothing short of dominant, winning four of five starts. She began the year with a victory in the Azeri Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn Park and then took the La Troienne Stakes Presented by Twinspires.com (G1) at Churchill Downs. Following a third in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park, she traveled cross country to Del Mar, where she cruised to her third grade 1 victory in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1). Most recently she captured the Sept. 18 Locust Grove Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs, where she is unbeaten in five starts, and will now be pointed for the Nov. 6 Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) at Del Mar, for which she is expected to be one of the favorites.

"Very rarely does a multiple grade 1 winner and classic winner, in the best form of her career, come to public auction," said consignor Fergus Galvin of Hunter Valley Farm. "She is a remarkable talent, and at just 4 years old, can provide her next owner with a world-class racemare to campaign on the sport's biggest and brightest stages."

Shedaresthedevil was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm out of the multiple graded stakes-producing Congrats   mare Starship Warpspeed. She is a half sister to Mojovation  (by Quality Road), who placed in the 2017 Futurity Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park. Her immediate family includes grade 2 winner and multiple grade 1-placed Crafty C. T. and traces back to the prolific producer Mumtaz, ancestress of nearly 70 stakes winners and 27 graded stakes winners. These include North American and European group 1 winners Hernando, Palace Music, Johann Quatz, and Prize Spot.

"Shedaresthedevil showed talent from the start. A debut winner at 2, she progressed to win grade 1 races at 3 and 4," said her trainer Brad Cox. "She's a tremendous filly who is as sound and consistent as a racehorse could be."

Boyd Browning Jr., president and CEO of Fasig-Tipton, added, "Buyers will have an opportunity to purchase one of the finest fillies in the world with unlimited potential both as a racehorse and a broodmare—and she could very well have a significant update from the Breeders' Cup."

Shedaresthedevil first sold as a weanling for $100,000 to Big Cuse Bloodstock when consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency at the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. She won her debut for Glencrest Farm before Qatar Racing joined the ownership. Qatar Racing stayed in on the filly after she sold to Flurry Racing Stables for $280,000 out of Hunter Valley's consignment to the 2019 Keeneland November sale.
