Two-time grade 1 winner Ce Ce  returns to action at Santa Anita Park in the $100,000 Chillingworth Stakes (G3), a 6 1/2-furlong sprint that drew a short field of six fillies and mares.

Owned and bred by Bo Hirsch, Ce Ce is trained by Michael McCarthy and comes off a third-place finish behind champion Gamine  in the Ketel One Ballerina Handicap (G1) over seven furlongs at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 28.  A 5-year-old mare by Elusive Quality  out of the grade 1-winning Miss Houdini , Ce Ce drew off to a 3 1/4-length sprint win two starts ago in the Princess Rooney Invitational Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park July 3.

A winner of four of seven starts at Santa Anita, including a tally in last year's Beholder Mile Stakes (G1), Ce Ce will again be ridden by Hall of Famer Victor Espinoza. With six wins from 14 starts, she has earnings of $1,173,100.

Second, beaten one length in the Rancho Bernardo Handicap (G3) going 6 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 20 at Del Mar, Peter Miller trainee Proud Emma  appears well spotted for her third consecutive sprint. Owned by Gem and Tom Kagele, this 5-year-old mare by Include   seeks her second graded stakes victory.

Kaleem Shah's stakes-winning California-bred Bella Vita , a fast allowance optional claiming winner Aug. 29, draws the far outside with Juan Hernandez up is a contender for trainer Simon Callaghan.

Other entrants are Scotish Star , Eyes Open , and On Deck .

The Chillingworth is named for the late Sherwood C. Chillingworth, a highly respected longtime executive with the Oak Tree Racing Association, which conducted a fall meeting at Santa Anita from 1969 through 2009.

Sunday's card also includes a pair of $200,000 stakes for 2-year-olds, the Surfer Girl Stakes for fillies and the Zuma Beach Stakes, an open race that drew primarily males. Both contests attracted competitive fields to race a mile on the turf that could propel runners into Breeders' Cup grass races Nov. 5 at Del Mar.

The 1-2-3 finishers from the Sept. 5 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes—Liam's Dove , Helens Well , and Dolly May —lead the Surfer Girl.

Front-running Liam's Dove, trained by Miller for owner Gary Barber, prevailed in the Del Mar race by a head, outlasting a rally from last attempted by Helens Well. Dolly May was 1 3/4 lengths back in the show position.

Similarly, the top finishers from the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes return in the Zuma Beach, though the outcome of the Del Mar Juvenile Turf wasn't as close as the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf. ERJ Racing and Dave Kenney's Mackinnon  was a 1 3/4-length victor for trainer Doug O'Neill. Madaket Stables joins as owner for the Zuma Beach.

Hernandez is aboard the son of American Pharoah  , who is 2-for-2 since stretched out to routes on grass.
