Phoenix Thoroughbred III's Tiz the Bomb , winner of the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile Stakes in his most recent start Sept. 6, headlines a field of 14 2-year-olds plus two also-eligibles for the $200,000 Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes (G2T) going 1 1/16 miles on the grass Oct. 10 at Keeneland.
Trained by three-time race winner Kenny McPeek, Tiz the Bomb notched his first victory in his second start, a 14 1/4-length blowout going a mile in an off-the-turf maiden race July 2 at Ellis Park. Brian Hernandez Jr. has the mount Sunday and will exit post 12.
"He's a very good horse," McPeek said. "I would have run him in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) if the owner didn't have another one (Double Thunder ) in there."
The Bourbon is a Breeders' Cup Challenge race with the winner earning a fees-paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
Tiz the Bomb is a son of Hit It a Bomb , who won the 2015 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland.
McPeek also sends out Lucky Boss , who was second in the Runhappy Ellis Park Juvenile Stakes Aug. 15. Lucky Boss will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. from post 13.
Another Kentucky Downs winner who figures to attract attention is Silverton Hill's Red Danger . Trained by Brian Lynch, Red Danger has won two of three starts with his most recent score coming in the Global Tote Juvenile Sprint Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs Sept. 9. Luis Saez, who has been aboard for all three of Red Danger's starts, has the call Sunday and will exit post 10.
Completing the field for the Bourbon are Brit's Wit , Stolen Base , Dowagiac Chief , Martini'nmoonshine , Rocket One , Credibility , Fast N Steady , Waita Minute Hayes , On Thin Ice , Heaven Street , and Play Action Pass . Also-eligibles are Vivar and Red Run .

Two races before the Bourbon is the $200,000 Indian Summer Stakes Presented by Keeneland Select for 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. Hat Creek Racing's undefeated Averly Jane , who is already a two-time stakes winner, tops a field of 10. The Midshipman filly won her debut on Keeneland's main track in April, took the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes in the slop at Churchill Downs later that month, and returned Aug. 20 to win the off-the-turf Skidmore Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. Averly Jane is trained by Wesley Ward and will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione from post 7.
Ward, who won the 2019 Indian Summer with the eventual grade 1-winning filly Kimari , also has Gregory Kaufman's stakes-placed Kaufymaker . She will be ridden by Ortiz Jr. from post 2.
Trainer Mark Casse, who sent out Strike Silver to win the inaugural Indian Summer in 2018, is back this year with Canadian stakes winner Diamond City .
The Indian Summer is also a Breeders' Cup Challenge race that offers the winner a paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2T) Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
