The $200,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) Oct. 13 at Keeneland is the final race on the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series schedule. A full field of 14 fillies, plus two also-eligibles, are lined up to compete for a "Win and You're In" berth to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
Heading the field is Dawn and Ike Thrash's Turnerloose , who will attempt to go 3-for-3 for trainer Brad Cox in Wednesday's 1 1/16-mile turf feature for 2-year-old fillies. The daughter of Nyquist has been listed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite off a five-length victory in the Sept. 6 Aristocrat Juvenile Fillies Stakes going a mile at Kentucky Downs. Florent Geroux has been up for both of her previous starts, in which she closely stalked the pace, and retains the mount from post 3.
"She was pulling on me pretty much all of the race, she wanted to go," Geroux said after winning the Aristocrat Juvenile Fillies. "So by the turn, she just kept on going. She was on a mission; she just wanted to take it to them, which was great."
Cox won the Jessamine a year ago with Aunt Pearl , who next out captured the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf to cap a perfect 2-year-old season.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners owns the 9-2 second choice Dressed , who has won her last two of three career starts by open lengths. Trained by Wayne Catalano, the More Than Ready filly was a maiden winner at the Jessamine distance Aug. 19 at Arlington International Racecourse, where her race was moved off the turf to the all-weather surface. She came from mid-pack to win by 5 1/4 lengths that day. Most recently, Dressed cut back to 6 1/2 furlongs Sept. 12 at Kentucky Downs and rallied from eighth in field of 12 to win by 3 1/4 lengths. Flavien Prat will wide from post 12.
Diamond Wow , who is 2-for-2 after winning the off-the turf Our Dear Peggy Stakes and a turf maiden race at Gulfstream Park, was scratched from the Oct. 8 Darley Alcibiades (G1) on Keeneland's dirt and instead will run in the Jessamine, which will be her first two-turn race. The Lookin At Lucky filly was redirected to the Jessamine, in which she drew post 14, after drawing post 11 in the Alcibiades.
"I think she would have been competitive (in the Alcibiades)," said Andie Biancone, assistant to her father, trainer Patrick Biancone. "I am not as concerned with the outside draw on the turf as on the dirt."
Diamond Wow is campaigned by Diamond 100 Racing Club, Amy Dunne, and Patrick Biancone. Jockey Mike Smith has the call.
The most expensive filly to sell through the ring in the main body of the field is D. J. Stable's Queen Judith . The Empire Maker daughter was purchased for $260,000 from Navas Equine at the Ocala Breeders' Sales June Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. She has started once for trainer Mark Casse, rallying to a neck victory when sprinting over yielding turf at Kentucky Downs. Julien Leparoux will return in the irons from post 8.
The field will also include SF Racing homebred Misthaven , an Irish-bred daughter of Candy Ride that is a half sister to 2014 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) winner Bobby's Kitten , multiple graded stakes winner Camelot Kitten , and stakes winner Major Magic . Misthaven was a $440,000 RNA at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. Trained by Joe Sharp, she came from far back to win her single start sprinting at Kentucky Downs. Tyler Gaffalione will ride from post 10.
