Ascot's Champion Stakes, QEII Added to Challenge Series

Adayar wins the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot Racecourse, which hosts two Breeders' Cup Challenge Series races Oct. 16

Two Breeders' Cup Challenge Series races, both Oct. 16 on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot, have been added to the 2021 schedule, Breeders' Cup officials have announced. 

Breeders' Cup Challenge Series race winners earn automatic starting positions and fees paid into a corresponding race of the Breeders' Cup, which will be at Del Mar Nov. 5-6. These preps are referred to as "Win and You're In" races.

Prior to the additions, the Oct. 13 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland had been the final race of the series, providing a bid into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T). That race remains the final United States qualifier.

  • The 1 1/4-mile QIPCO Champion Stakes (G1) will provide the winner with an automatic starting position and fees paid into the $4 million Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T). Mishriff , Adayar , Addeybb , and Dubai Honour  are that race's anticipated headliners. 
  • The one-mile Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored by QIPCO (G1) will provide the winner with an automatic starting position and fees paid into the $2 million FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T). Palace Pier  and Baaeed  are the expected favorites for the QEII with The Revenant , Alcohol Free , and Master of The Seas  also pegged at odds of less than 10-1 in early wagering.
