Stonestreet Stables' Campanelle , a two-time group 1 winner in Europe, heads a field of 12 fillies and mares for the 25th running of the $150,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes (G3T) going 5 1/2 furlongs on turf at Keeneland Oct. 15.
Trained by Wesley Ward, Campanelle will be making her first start since being unplaced in the Larc Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) at Deauville in August. Anxious in the starting gate, she hopped at the break and raced keenly while attempting to catch up. She faded to run last of 12 under Frankie Dettori.
Previous excursions to Europe resulted in victories in the Queen Mary Stakes (G2) and Darley Prix Morny (G1) at age 2, and the Commonwealth Cup (G1) this year at 3 upon the disqualification of Dragon Symbol for interference.
Just two of six starts for the U.S.-based filly have come in the states—a debut score at Gulfstream Park and a fourth-place finish in last fall's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Keeneland over a two-turn mile. Except for the Breeders' Cup, her races have come in sprints.
Joel Rosario will have the mount Friday on the 7-2 morning-line favorite, a daughter of Kodiac .
Also figuring to attract interest are the 1-2 finishers from last month's Mint Ladies Sprint (G3T) at Kentucky Downs: In Good Spirits and Catch a Bid .
Bal Mar Equine's In Good Spirits (Ghostzapper ), trained by Al Stall Jr., scored a two-length victory at Kentucky Downs and in the race prior to that was runner-up in the Caress Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course in July. John Velazquez has the mount on In Good Spirits.
Highlander Training Center's Catch a Bid (Real Solution ), trained by Joe Sharp, won the West Virginia Senate President's Cup Stakes at Mountaineer Racetrack Casino & Resort in August prior to her Kentucky Downs race. She will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione.
In Good Spirits and Catch a Bid are 9-2 and 5-1 odds on the morning line, respectively.

Perry Harrison's Change of Control , second choice at 4-1, will look to rebound from a dull showing when 10th against males in the Sept. 18 Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1T) in Canada.
A model of consistency in sprints, she has won or placed in 11 stakes. In her signature victories, she scored in the Mamzelle Overnight Stakes at age 3 and added the Giant's Causeway Stakes and Intercontinental Stakes (G3T) this year at 5. The Giant's Causeway came over yielding turf at Keeneland in the spring.
Colby Hernandez rides the daughter of Fed Biz from the outside post for trainer Michelle Lovell.
Ambassador Luna , Campanelle, Elle Z , and Yes It's Ginger are the race's projected front-runners.
Jim and Susan Hill's black-type winner Lead Guitar is also of interest. The daughter of Maclean's Music comes in off a runner-up finish in the Aug. 21 Smart N Fancy Stakes going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Saratoga lawn for trainer George Weaver and won four in a row last year in New York, capped by back-to-back scores at Belmont in the Floral Park Stakes at Autumn Days Stakes.
"We had a lot of success at Belmont, she went on a pretty good run in New York in the fall last year, but the one thing that's missing on her resume is graded black type or a graded stakes win," Weaver said. "It kind of felt like running in New York, we've been there and done that, and we wanted to give the filly a chance to put another notch on her resume."
The Buffalo Trace Franklin County is the ninth race on Friday's 10-race program with a 5:16 p.m. ET post time.
