Guarana wins the 2020 Madison Stakes at Keeneland

Including the sale of three-time grade 1 winner Guarana , Three Chimneys Farm and Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency will dissolve a partnership by selling a select group of mares at The November Sale at Fasig-Tipton Nov. 9.

Guarana, in foal to Into Mischief   and consigned by Hill 'n' Dale as Hip 182, won five of six starts and more than $1 million during her racing career in 2019-20 for Three Chimneys Farm and Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings. The daughter of 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper burst onto the scene with a 14 3/4 length debut romp at Keeneland in April 2019 before capturing the one-mile Acorn Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park in then-stakes record time 1:33.58. The Chad Brown trainee triumphed in the Acorn by six lengths over Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Serengeti Empress .

She landed the second of three legs of the New York Filly Triple Tiara in her next start by capturing the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. She then lost for the only time when second in the Cotillion Stakes (G1) at Parx Racing.

The third grade 1 win for the Three Chimneys homebred came last summer in the Madison Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, which followed a victorious first start of her 4-year-old season in an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs. The Madison was her final race.

Guarana's dam, Magical World  (Distorted Humor  ), also sells for the partnership as Hip 203. She is also the dam of stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Magic Dance  and recent winner Beatbox , who sold as a yearling for $2.1 million. Magical World also is in foal to Into Mischief.

Another Three Chimneys raced Acorn winner is Carina Mia , the millionaire daughter of Malibu Moon   who set a then-track record for 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.18  in her maiden win at Keeneland in 2015. Hip 252 in The November Sale, she is in foal to Uncle Mo  .

"This is a unique group of mares. All are either champions, grade 1 winners, or grade 1 producers in foal to leading sires Into Mischief and Uncle Mo," said John G. Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale Farms, in a release. "Deep foundational pedigrees, brilliance on the racetrack, and siblings by sires such as Curlin  , Gun Runner  , and Quality Road   which we retained bolster these outstanding pages.

"With these retained sons and daughters, we felt the time was now to enter a vibrant marketplace with a unique group with stellar résumés. The marketplace craves special, and these mares are very special."

"Three Chimneys is a strong believer in partnerships. John and I are both buyers and sellers in the market, and we both have collectively retained significant members of the families. So in light of the extraordinary strength of the current market, we agreed to offer this group at Fasig-Tipton," added Gonçalo Torrealba, owner of Three Chimneys.

Also selling as Hip 247 is 2014 champion 2-year-old filly and that year's 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Take Charge Brandi , also in foal to Uncle Mo. The daughter of Giant's Causeway , a half sister to Omaha Beach  , is out of a daughter of 2013 Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady .

"We're obviously delighted to have the opportunity to sell four mares of this quality," said Boyd Browning Jr., president of Fasig-Tipton. "All of these horses have world class pedigrees. Each of them offer unlimited potential and offer an amazing opportunity for the buyers.

"These mares will be very desirable and highly sought after by the top breeders in the world, as they should be. Three of them were grade 1 winners on the racetrack—they weren't just good runners but spectacular runners. Guarana, Carina Mia, and Take Charge Brandi.

"It's unusual to find a mare at the age of Magical World (11) who has produced the quality of Guarana and Magic Dance, who was also an exceptional runner. (Magical World is) by one of the world's best broodmare sires in Distorted Humor. These are all things that rarely come into the market and to sell four of them of this caliber in the same consignment, same sale is extraordinary."
