Charles Blanford's Crabs N Beer broke his maiden Oct. 16 at Delaware Park to deliver freshman sire Blofeld his first winner.
The 2-year-old gelding captured the first race on the card, a six-furlong maiden $25,000 claiming event. With Jaime Rodriguez up, he led from gate to wire and drew off for a 9 3/4-length victory. The final time on the fast track was 1:10.89.
Jamie Ness trains Crabs N Beer, who has earned $20,970 from a 1-0-1 record in four starts.
Crabs N Beer was bred in Maryland by Kyle Horlacher out of the winning Kitalpha mare Get'm Up Pronto , an earner of $122,231. He is the second starter and winner for his dam, who delivered an Imagining filly this year and was bred to Good Samaritan for 2022.
Blofeld, a 9-year-old son of Quality Road , was an undefeated 2-year-old who captured the Futurity Stakes (G2) going six furlongs at Belmont Park and the Nashua Stakes (G2) going a mile at Aqueduct Racetrack when trained by Todd Pletcher. In the Nashua, he defeated eventual multiple graded stakes winner El Kabeir by five lengths. Blofeld later won the Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) in his 4-year-old year.
After four seasons on the track, Blofeld retired with a 4-0-1 record in 14 starts and earnings of $745,420.
Blofeld stands at Murmur Farm in Maryland for a $4,000 fee.
