Luck of the Kitten Starts '15 in Transylvania

Last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. I) runner-up Luck of the Kitten will try to start his 3-year-old season on the right foot when he faces a large field of challengers in the $100,000 Transylvania Stakes (gr. IIIT) Friday, April 3, opening day of the Keeneland spring meeting.

Thirteen 3-year-olds have been entered in the Transylvania, a 1 1/16-mile turf test that serves as the feature race on the Lexington track's opening day card.

Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebred Luck of the Kitten has been working steadily for his 2015 debut for trainer Wesley Ward, including a bullet five-furlong move in :59 2/5 on the Turfway Park Polytrack March 24. After leading into the stretch of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Park, Luck of the Kitten was edged by stablemate Hootenanny.

Before that effort, Luck of the Kitten scored a gate-to-wire victory in the Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita. The son of Kitten's Joy   also finished second to Croninthebarbarian in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile.

Awaiting Luck of the Kitten Friday will be grade III winners on turf Eh Cumpari and Night Prowler.

Anstu Stables' Eh Cumpari enters off a victory in the Palm Beach Stakes (gr. IIIT) March 7 at Gulfstream Park.

Off his victory in the Dania Beach Stakes (gr. IIIT) Jan. 3 at Gulfstream, Paul Pompa Jr. homebred Night Prowler, by Giant's Causeway  , finished fifth in the Palm Beach, in which he was sent off as the even-money favorite.
