Calvin Nguyen's Idol , winner of the March 6 Santa Anita Handicap (G1), will bypass the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). Trainer Richard Baltas said that the 4-year-old son of Curlin   didn't come out of his Oct. 31 work at Del Mar 100%.

"He's a little tight behind, almost like he's tying up—not really bad but just enough," said Baltas. "I did some diagnostics on him and pulled some bloods on him (earlier) and he was good all week. It was just key how he came out of this work.

"You've got to go into these kind of races 110%. We tried to make it and the horse just is not 100% right now."

Idol worked five furlongs in 1:02 2/5, and Baltas said he worked him in company.

"When he came back to the barn he started walking a little short," the trainer said. "He's probably going to have a few weeks off, depending on what the vet says. He's going to race next year for sure. Sometimes these things work out as a blessing in disguise."
